Stratford Housing
2012
The 2012 Olympic Village has created a whole new piece of city. It has been designed in such a way that it makes a festive statement for the big event, but its longer life will be as housing for a mix of tenure types. Therefore, the buildings have two projected lives: one for a month and the other for the future.
We worked as part of the Lend Lease Framework Team. The design is based on a site-wide strategy which incorporates sequencing, procurement, design guides and build ability. The architects needed to integrate with a much wider team on all aspects of design and construction. The façade of our housing is made from relief castings, based on an ancient frieze, made from reconstituted stone, showing parades of athletes assembled for a festival.
