House at Bayswater
2002
The practice was appointed to design a family home for a young married couple. Both worked in the IT industry and most of their work was done from home. Here, the traditional idea of the house as a private retreat was inverted. The architecture celebrates the home as a place where work, cooking, exercise and other activities are at the centre.
The clients asked us to imagine how new technologies will alter the way they live. With Ove Arup & Partners we developed responsive environmental technologies for the house. We allowed these systems to inform the layout of the spaces and a new architectural expression.
