Arts Council Offices

2005

The new Arts Council England offices in Exeter were designed to encourage creativity by using open spaces to facilitate internal communication, as well as bringing in daylight and minimising clutter.

There are sixty individual workstations and eight communal spaces. Open and closed filing are housed in an illuminated storage wall made from bespoke joinery. An array of deep fins hangs from the ceiling, concealing ducts, cables and pipes and diffusing natural light.

In keeping with its role as an arts organisation, the client commissioned an artist to collaborate on the project with us. Huw Milner, an installation artist, produced a live broadcast of the Exeter sky scape continually screened in the reception area. He also adapted the phones of each employee to have a different ringtone. As they ring throughout the day, they generate a unique office symphony.
