STEAM DAY

Last week, NMLA volunteered in Acland Burghley’s STEAM Day where secondary school students were offered a day of workshops around the subjects of science, technology, engineering, art & maths.
Anne and Eoghan held two-hour long drawing and model making workshops with Y9 & Y10. Students were asked to brainstorm ideas for how their school environment could be improved and were then encouraged to explore architectural proposals through drawing and modelmaking.
We thoroughly enjoyed the day and were inspired by the students’ engagement, creative responses, and willingness to learn modelmaking!
ARCHITECTURE ON STAGE AT THE BARBICAN

On the 9th March at 7pm at the Barbican, London. The lecture entitled Taking Time will explore the role that buildings play in giving form to extended time. Níall will argue that architecture represents the durability of communal bonds. This insight is important in helping us to rethink our discipline in a world where embodied investment in our existing building stock has urgent priority.

THE SAHGB ANNUAL LECTURE: A CONVERSATION ABOUT THE SHAPE OF BUILDINGS TO COME

On the 13th March Níall will be talking at The Scoiety of Architectural Historians of Great Britain as part of their annual lecture. the evening will be looking at "how can architects and architectural historians, between tasks of being chroniclers, designers, analysts, constructors and commentators, find ways to collaboratively rethink heritage and conservation practices while addressing challenges brought on by these large-scale changes and implications in buildings, resources, energies, policies, laws and environments?"
